The Imperative of Adopting Oversight On commodity movement as a mechanism to protect the national economy from customs crimes

The Institute of Law and Political Science at the University Center of Maghnia, in partnership with the Regional Directorate of Customs in Tlemcen, organized today, December 15, 2024, a national seminar that will continue until tomorrow, December 16. The seminar is titled: "The Imperative of Adopting Commodity Movement Control as a Mechanism to Protect the National Economy from Customs Crimes," chaired by Dr. Medjdoub Nawal.
– This national seminar falls within the framework of the partnership and cooperation agreement established between the University Center of Maghnia and the Regional Directorate of Customs in Tlemcen, as part of the institutional project titled: "The Impact of Customs Crimes on the National Economy and Methods of Combat."
– The national seminar was held under the supervision of Professor Kadri Riad, Acting Director of the University Center of Maghnia. It was honored by the presence of the Head of the Maghnia District, as well as senior officials from the Customs Administration, led by the Inspector General, the Director of Signal and Information Systems at the General Directorate of Customs, and the Regional Director of Customs in Tlemcen. Also in attendance were the President of the Municipal People's Council of Maghnia and several high-ranking security officials.
– The seminar featured the participation of an elite group of researchers and experts from the University Centre of Maghnia and several other university institutions. It addressed critical topics regarding international and local efforts in combating customs crimes, the role of customs oversight and reconciliation, and the challenges posed by digital transformation within the sector.
– The speakers were divided into both in-person and remote sessions:
– The First Session: Addressed international and customs efforts to curb and limit crimes.
– The Second Session: Discussed customs liability and reconciliation as mechanisms for dispute resolution.
– The Virtual Session: Focused on customs challenges in light of digital transformation.
– The Director of Signal and Information Systems at the General Directorate of Customs delivered a valuable keynote presentation addressing the current state and future prospects of digitizing the customs sector in Algeria, under the theme: "Smart Customs Administration: Project 2030."
– This seminar comes at a critical juncture where our national economy faces accelerating challenges resulting from globalization and cross-border customs crimes.
– Consequently, this gathering is not merely a scientific event, but rather a platform for developing realistic and practical visions to protect our nation's resources and enhance economic development.
