Selecting a project idea and establishing a startup in the fields of Sociology and Psychology often creates a sense of confusion and ambiguity for students regarding how to adopt and realize an idea, given the specialized nature of these disciplines. From this perspective, the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences organized a study day on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, chaired by Dr. Benhamel Djamila, titled:
Startups and Entrepreneurship in the Field of Social Sciences: Approaches and Challenges
  • The novelty of this event lay in the twinning between the various institutes and specializations of the University Centre of Maghnia. In an unprecedented move, the study day was organized through coordination between the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences—specifically the Department of Sociology—and the Capacity Building and Development Centre with all its branches, foremost among them the Business Incubator.
  • The study day's activities commenced with a recitation of verses from the Holy Qur'an, delivered by the student Belahcene Anis
  • Following the National Anthem, the Director of the University Centre of Maghnia and Honorary Chair of the study day, Professor Mourad Naoum, delivered an opening and welcoming speech. He praised the tremendous initiatives undertaken by the newly established Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, led by Dr. Hosni Hamra and the Head of Department, Dr. Benhamel Djamila, along with their administrative team. He highlighted the significant progress in the field of entrepreneurship, noting the impressive number of students from this discipline registered under Decree 1275. Furthermore, he commended the qualitative leap achieved, especially since this specialization posed a challenge for students venturing into entrepreneurship. They have successfully embraced entrepreneurial thinking and represented it exceptionally well, overcoming the initial apprehension and hesitation observed at the beginning of the Decree 1275 implementation.
  • In turn, the Chair of the seminar and Head of the Social Sciences Department, Dr. Benhamel Djamila, delivered an opening presentation in which she addressed certain ambiguities, particularly among newly enrolled students. She noted that this is natural for those new to the university environment, as the first and even second years serve as a preliminary and awareness-building stage. This is precisely what the study day’s problematic aimed to address, and it was further clarified through the interventions of both the Director of the Business Incubator, Dr. Derfouf Mohamed Amine, and the Director of the Entrepreneurship Development Centre, Dr. Boterfas Amine
  • The remaining sessions included contributions from the Head of the Liaison Office, Dr. Belarbi Halima, along with professors from various institutes who delivered valuable presentations. Their interventions served as a significant asset for students of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences in particular, and for all students of the University Centre of Maghnia in general
